Okay, after a few false starts (and an incredible lack of motivation) I decided I finally wanted to get this blog rolling. First things first.
Who am I? I am Kenny. Of the Peskin clan, hailing from the deepest darkest suburbs of Youngstown, Ohio. But if you didn't already know that, you would have no real reason to be here, would you? I work for the US Chamber of Commerce as a Research Analyst in Environment, Technology, and Regulatory Affairs. I love my work, am challenged by it, and am constantly learning lots about the disconnect between the perceptions of our economy and environment and the reality. (I'll skip the pulpit stuff for right now, since I'm sure both of my readers are really interested in this.)
What's with the blog name? Most of my friends come from a left-of-center political position (as do I on most social issues). My friend Aaron was meeting me at my office for lunch, and once he was inside he said, "So this is what the nexus of evil looks like from the inside." I loved it immediately. The name stuck in my mind. Plus it makes for an even better introduction at parties as to what I do than my previous standard, "I help bad people keep on doing bad things to other people." What, am I supposed to defend Monsanto and ExxonMobil to my liberal friends with a straight face? Like that will work, they generally don't care for big business, especially those industries who make money refining chemicals or altering the genetic structures of corn. So I joke about it. It's more effective and less stressful. A definite win-win.
What am I going to write about? Who really knows? Anyone who really knows me knows that my principal attribute is my sheer randomness. I can talk and talk about anything and will for a long time. My interests run the gamut from news to sports to entertainment to quiz bowl to Ohio to politics. Mostly though I will talk about current events, sports, and quiz bowl, with a dash of other things thrown in. And now that I am in Washington, I will likely discuss the changes in my political and personal philosophy since I came to town and the recurring conflicts between my personal beliefs and my corporate mission.
But what I will promise is to never include a "What kind of mixeddrink/superhero/pokemon are you?" Maybe I am missing the point of this whole blog thing, but shouldn't it be about you and your life, not a cut and paste of some net quiz that looks like everybody elses blogs. Just now I realized that my blog is formatted using one of the pre-fab styles provided by Blogger. Oh well. There is the first contradiction. Many more are sure to follow.
